the only thing that is new regarding my person: i got a new tailor:
Mr. Cechmanek, Praterstraße, Vienna. He cuts those cute handmade suits worn by Mr. Bond and The Beatles.
2002Starting with a new concept - no fix band, conversion of projects under the name pb & the mc t. (punching bones & the monochrome tones). A cooperation of 6 dancers and musicians, who are acting to big video-projections of different subjects in the background.
Invitation to the Mostviertel- and Industrieviertelfestival, which are financed by the province of Lower Austria. The basis are recorded soundsamples with daily noises, which are representing the subject and the background of the music.
It becomes more and more a family-thing. Participation of father, son, mother and daughter Thomann.
Participation at the CD-sampler "Heimat" (hoanzl), a folk song collection) directed by Wolfgang Pollanz (pumpkin records, Styria electronic-szene) or "Arbeiterlieder aus dem Industrieviertel", directed by Hannes Winkler.
The last well-known musically impression - a concert of the band Radiohead at Lisbon. A great band like Portishead or Austrian heroes like Attwenger or Waxolusionists, great Jazzers - Norway-people like N. P. Molvaer.
2000Presentation of the CD, including again a tour through Romania. Invitation to the international Jazzfestival Temesvar. Sold out and positive critics. Afterwards the band separated.
2000I start to visualise my music. Since yet I make visuals with my own pictures, often alienated landscapes.
Recordings of the second CD "beyond a c.d.", now in the own studio, "direct to disk" on PC. Produced by Alex Zlamal, who stays in LA at this time.
The music is getting more figuratively speaking and mediative than on the first CD, which sounds more rough and unpolished.
Recorded again live without overdubs.
1998Participation at the 7-days "Orgien Mysterien Theater" at Herman Nitschs Lärmorchester in Prinzendorf.
Impressive:
1.) The crowd of artists: round about 200 musicians, who are playing 7 days from dusk till down after Nitschs own idea. The score is just written in lines, which are representing the intensity, duration and pitch. Everybody is searching his own tone and is playing it constantly. If you try to relieve and play a second tone, the master is coming and asks: "Not too jazzy".
2.) The man is nice, affable, calm and courteous and he doesn't like fraternisation (saying you to everyone). A musician wanted to say "you" to him. ("Heast Oida, wo isn do des Klo?), he told him: "Entschuldigung - ich wusste gar nicht, dass wir schon gemeinsam Kühe hüten waren?"
3.) Now I know what media-hype means. As the F propaganda, incl. Krone-participation, a legion of animal welfarists should demonstrate - but where have they been? Didn't they find to Prinzendorf?
1994First own CD-recordings: "lunchtime atop a Scyscraper", made freely after a picture, which I saw at the walls of my pub. Live recorded at the Rinössl Studios Vienna in four days, without overdubs. Mixed and mastered by Alex Zlamal (among other things responsible for the film-music for the Virgil Wildrich movies "Heller als der Mond" and "Copyshop").
Meanwhile I am responsible for the musically concept of the band. The music is getting more and more figuratively speaking, visual motions should grow, just like a film-music. (A dream for me is to compose the music of a film.)
With this CD we play two times in Romania. Unforgettable impressions - an audience who is listening and Lew in bundles, for what you can't buy anything.
1989Studies at the Josef Matthias Hauer Conservatory in Wiener Neustadt - course of studies "Jazz Saxophone". Teacher Josef Schultner, headmaster R.M. Weiß. Lessons are given after the Lydian Concept. Slowly I begin to understand it. Fellow students are above others Martin Kolber and Peter Natterer. At the same year the master G. Russell visits Wiener Neustadt and his Europe-representation Weiß. He gives a workshop. This man is top, cool and funny.
Since this time participation in bands like a free Jazz thing with Michael F ischer & Richard Barnert (nowadays manager of AKG Austria), Jazz-Rock with Kurt Leban, diverse Kons-STage Bands incl. CD-recordings, Reggae with "Riddim" (incl. concert at Wiesen Sunsplash).
Final examinations 1993, afterwards degree-year at Max Nagl at Gumpoldskirchen. One of the best, I think, even very good for me, because he personally knows the clique around the Lurie brothers, Steven Bernstein, Jane Scarpantoni etc.

Starting work: 8 years Semperit Reifen AG in Traiskirchen (Controller). Then BHS-Teacher (HLA Wiener Neustadt)
1986Foundation of the band "Zawatoosh" (since 1994 called "beyond a coloured dream"). The players (except the pianist) are the same until the year 2000. First the standards are played, but soon started to play my own compositions. Since the first CD only my own compositions are played.
I started to compose. Beside M. Davis the Lounge Lizards are being heard.
Out of the idea, the songs should include:
catchy melodies above groovy and intertwined riffs in changing and strange times, less harmony (for me just colouring, filling and reproducing the melody) and all that in a slower tempi - the fast tempo have never been my favourites (I never liked the Bebopstückln). My favourites are ballads.
This imagination is strengthened by two characteristics:
1.) I compose on a computer (ATARI). I play just one riff after another in a circle.
2.) A personal characteristic: If someone says A I have automatically to say B. The parts of the songs seem to collide very often, but then they sound like a whole one, a harmonically sounding one.
Parallel I study some courses at the music-school Wiener Neustadt. Robert Michael Weiß is teaching the "Lydian Chromatic Concept for Tonal Organization of Improvisation" of G. Russell for the Jazz-musicians. This concept is the basis for the modal music of M. Davis, Gil Evans. For me it's nothing more than ???
1985As the Saxophone-Revival begins, starting with these pseudo-cool Jazz things from England like "Sade" or "Working Week", I buy an alto-saxophone (later on I buy a sopran-saxophone. I like it's smooth sound) and start to play to the songs. That was it. That is mine instrument and I know immediately how it should sound like.
At the Jazzfestival Hollabrunn (as indemnification for Wiesen) enters as last band round about 2am the Lounge Lizards with frontman John Lurie the stage. They are able to wake me up! Since that time I bought every album and visited every concert. That's the way a saxophone should sound in music, or like Max Nagl, Wofgang Puschnig, Arthur Blythe, John Coltrane or Wayne Shorter, or...
1982/83Above all the first album of Harry Stojka "Off the Bonses" leads to a musically change of course. Formation of the Jazz Rock Band "Orig. Ungarviertler", the first band with many own compositions. (Main-Composer: Christian Pogats). Instruments: 3 guitars, bass, drums.
To our surprise, we reach with this formation top positions at the band-competitions (the jury-price has always been ours) in Wiener Neustadt and surroundings. These band-competitions have often been organised by the stockbroker Michael Lielacher. Maybe we won the competitions, because the other bands just played five songs in a circle.
That's the first clue that Wiener Neustadt has been important for the music-business in those days. Especially for Punk and NDW, subdivision Austria, for example "X-Beliebieg" (their chief, Adametz Rene,has been my school-friend, Bechtloff Bernd is now playing with Hubert von Goisern, but he changed name) or "Zerbrechlich". Out of these groups comes Hannes Eder, Chief of Universal and popular one-man show at TV Jungspritzerevents. Unbelievable, in those times have been some concert-possibilities for upcoming bands, like the "Orig. Ungarviertler", Even the first album "Wr. Neustädter Szene" was created.
The most important impression of this epoch is Hansi Lang. Even today I like to listen to his two vinyl "Keine Angst" and "Der Taucher". His concerts were the best, his way of living excessive. (To my honour, I met him in my career as shop window decorator at Leiner Mariahilferstraße. My first thought: "Na serwas".
The coolest person out of all has been and is until today the one an donly Miles Davis.
My favourite "Decoy" with the great boy John Scofield.
1983Marriage and birth of my son Ivo. Birth of my daughter Ina in 1986. I am still married with the same woman, who is also singer and dancer in the current band. In those days she has been a top sportswoman.
1982We get sometimes a visit of a band next door in our practice-room. Their guitarist, Gerald Gradwohl, shows me briefly what I can do on the guitar. That gets me to sell him my white "Hamer Special". (According to his homepage he even has it. But it is now nicotine-yellow instead of white). For the net profits I buy myself a "FenderPrecision Bass". Four strings are enough.
1980Through my summer-practica on the building site a can afford a "Fender Stratocaster sunburst", the Rolls Royce of the e-guitars of that time. The musically stile changes to Hard Rock and Heavy Metal. To the heroes "Black Sabbath", "Deep Purple" and "Led Zeppelin" joins the younger generation of "Judas Pries", "Motorhead" or "iron Maiden". But the first appearances show the totally misunderstanding of the audience. The rare gigs are scarred of a panic-exit of the audience. Even the drunken people try through gliding across the floor to escape.
Again the question faces up: Is it just wrong or even Punk?
Highlights of this musically career: A gig with two viewers who donated freely 5ATS together and a band-competition where the audio engineer Peter Ponger turned off the electricity, after the audience has left the competition.
The first hero is "Alvin Lee - Ten Years after". Every vinyl is bought and his version of "Going Home" is now part of the repertoire.
1977Purchase of the first stereo-system and the irst cassette "Smokie - greatest hits". Because of these things I buy my first guitar and the "Beatles - Complete Songbook" for 300ATS at the "Pfandl". I form the everywhere popular school-band with kindred spirits. Everything is played, that is in our opinion heard right of the bought albums. That leads, of course, to a mixed set-list including Santana, "Smoke on the water" and "Der Eisbär". We buy together the first amplifier, financed by sorting 320.000 art-postcards at the printers Dresel, Wiener Neustadt.
1974Because of my talent for the violin (are the teachers joking?) I learn to scratch the strings. My version of the children's song "Hänsel und Gretel" at the music-school-concert faces up the question: Is that just wrong or even Jazz?
In spite of my teacher Miss Bergmann long legs, the violin-lessons lead to the trauma: Never ever music!
